• What is RunKeeper? RunKeeper is the personal trainer for your pocket. Track your running, walking or biking activities with our mobile app (iPhone and Android), or log in to the website to get further insight into how you're doing against yourself or your friends.
  • Get RunKeeper 3.5 for iPhone to better interact with your running buddies!

From the beginning, the RunKeeper community has been a close-knit one where friends (both old and new) provide motivation to help each other reach their fitness goals.  You can see progress, chime in with praise or encouragement, and get pumped up by seeing all of the fun activities, milestones, and races of your RunKeeper friends.  But until recently, none of this social functionality was on your phone!

    The social feed

We launched the mobile leaderboard recently, which was met with rave reviews, but this is only one aspect of the social experience that the RunKeeper community has been clamoring for.  We are thrilled to announce today that we’ve added a social feed in the mobile app as well!  Now you can see your activities, photos, goal milestones, and other highs you’ve hit along the way, as well as those of your RunKeeper friends—right from your phone!

We’re excited to see how the social feed in the app enhances your RunKeeper experience.  It is also foundational—you can expect more functionality to come that enhances the social experience in the app and further connects you to the RunKeeper community in powerful ways.

    Ranking

We’ve also crafted this latest iPhone update to bring you important context about your personal fitness journey, which we see as another powerful motivator.  When you press the stop button after an activity, aren’t you just itching to know how it compares to your others? We’ve taken the guesswork out of this process by ranking your runs for you!

You RunKeeper Elite users will see how a particular workout stacks up against all others of a similar distance, and how your pace is trending over time. You can even compare two runs against each other for an extra level of insight! (Non-Elite users will see just how close a run is to a personal record, but you can upgrade to Elite here if you’d like these extra goodies.)

We’re so excited to see how this new update helps you better reach your fitness goals! Be sure to download it and let us know what you think.

  • We’re all about goals with RunKeeper 3.4 for iPhone!

We thinking having a target to work towards greatly improves your chances of sticking to a fitness routine, which is why we introduced goals in the app last year. We’ve taken in your feedback since launching this feature, and are pleased to announce some major enhancements that we think will make it easier for you to achieve big things using RunKeeper!

    • Maybe you like to take it one week at a time when it comes to your goals, rather than thinking about things in the long run. We’ve updated our goals feature to allow you to focus on frequency—say, working out three times a week.
    • And you might not know just how long it will take you to rack up 100 miles, or you’ve hit that goal, but just a few days after you said you wanted to.  You can now enter a big goal like this without a particular end date!
    • If you realize the goal you entered isn’t quite right for you, you can easily delete it and start over, straight from the app (just hover over the goal and swipe your finger to the left).

We want your goal to be front of mind whenever you exercise, so now you’ll see just how you’re progressing against this target after each workout. You’ll also see cool new details about the workout, like your notes, splits, elevation charts, and photos, all in one convenient screen. This window into your progress should make hitting your goals that much easier!

    imageimageimage

That’s it, you’re out of excuses for not setting a goal! Download the 3.4 iPhone update and let’s get this target in writing, OK?

  • Extreme Makeover, RunKeeper.com Edition

Guess what? We’re launching a fresh new redesign of RunKeeper.com! Yes you’re reading that right. And feel free to do a happy dance

We created RunKeeper to be a powerful personal trainer in your pocket, but many of you look to our website to do things like drill deeper in your workout tracking, interact with friends, and connect with other partner apps. That hasn’t exactly been looking its finest for some time now, and many of you have been sure to let us know how you feel about that.

Rightfully so. There were buttons for things like routes, races, training, plans, and apps–twice, in two different places. What does that even mean? Meanwhile, cool functions like finding friends and connecting your RunKeeper account to other apps were pretty buried.

    Before

    image

And if you were just getting started on RunKeeper, many of these pages, were, um, depressing.

    image

    image

    image

Not anymore! We’ve taken the time to give RunKeeper.com the revamping it was due (especially considering the spiffy new redesigns our mobile apps got earlier this year). Now the website offers the same inviting, fun, and helpful experience that RunKeeper for iPhone and Android do (we hope!).

    After

    image

    image

We’ve cleaned up the navigation on top, so the features you interact with the most are clear and easily accessible: the ‘Feed’ button will show you what your friends are up to; ‘Me’ takes you to your activity history, fitness reports, training plans, routes, and more. Click the ‘Log’ button to easily post a new workout.

For those who are new to RunKeeper, these different pages offer helpful, friendly guidance for getting up and running (pun intended) with us.

    image

We’re not claiming this new site is a masterpiece, but it is a significant improvement over what was there before and lays the foundation for us to make it more awesome in the months to come–so stay tuned for a bunch of exciting stuff in the near future!

To accomplish some of our goals, we had to move a couple things around with this update. To help existing users adjust, we’ve set up a guide to help highlight some of the more significant changes below.

We hope you see RunKeeper.com as a helpful and fun tool for tracking your fitness journey (you friends’ too!)! Let us know what you think!

  • Get RunKeeper 3.3 for iPhone and Android, with Pebble integration & more!

It’s your lucky day, beloved RunKeeper users, and it doesn’t matter whether you’re on iPhone or Android. We’ve got a brand new RunKeeper 3.3 release live today for all! Both apps come with brand new support for the Pebble smart watch, which rocked Kickstarter last year. We know many of you have been eager for the watch to be able to display your RunKeeper stats while on the go, so we’re excited to get this in your hands.

And take a look below for the more new features specific to each operating system. There are lots of goodies in there!

    Android

    Weight & indoor activity entry
We’ve made it much easier and simpler to enter non-GPS workouts or your weight, right into the app. (So those treadmill runs can count towards your goals!) There’s even a visualization of how your weight is progressing over time.

    Widgets
Starting and stopping a RunKeeper activity is easier than ever with new home screen and lock screen widgets. No need to fire up the full app to access the buttons you use the most.

    iPhone

We recently announced that we’re taking a big step forward in making RunKeeper even more accessible for our passionate user base around the world.

And now, our iPhone app is available in six new languages: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Japanese. We’re excited to bring all that good fitness guidance and motivation to more and more people around the globe! If your native language isn’t on this initial list, let us know in the comments! We’re only getting started! This 3.3. app update also ensures that the features we added in our last release are running nice and smoothly.

    imageimageimage

Be sure to download the new updates and get moving. And do let us know what you think.

Oh and check out the video below for a closer look at how RunKeeper and Pebble work together. (You can pre-order the watch here)

  • Enhanced visualizations, activity entry & more with RunKeeper iPhone 3.2!

With our new 3.2 update, we’ve built more features to ensure that staying on track with your fitness routines doesn’t require unnecessary steps. Check ‘em out!

    Manual entry
We’ve improved the experience for entering non-GPS-based activities, so you can better keep tabs of all different types of exercise sessions using RunKeeper, and more easily enter your weight on an ongoing basis.

    Workout frequency charts
We think visualizing how often you workout is a powerful motivator for building healthy habits. Your “Me” tab will now show you how often you’re working out, week-by-week over the last few months.

    Enhanced Elite features
Now you RunKeeper Elite users can push updates real-time to your social networks when using live tracking. We’ve also brought you badges, and fitness insights to the phone so that you can get even more detailed information on how you’re performing over time—right in the palm of your hand.

    imageimageimage

Download the 3.2 update and let us know what you think! We hope you find these updates helpful and fun!

  • The RunKeeper app is going global—in six new languages, to be exact!

    image

There are more than 17 million RunKeeper users now in more than 200 countries all over the world!  This is amazing, especially considering that we are just a small team in Boston, MA USA and until now, our app has only been in English.

We’re thrilled to finally be changing that—RunKeeper is now available in six additional languages—Spanish, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Japanese.

We’re always looking to become a better personal trainer in your pocket, and we are thrilled to start to enable this capability in more of our users’ native languages!

These changes are live on Android now, and the iPhone version is coming very soon.

The Android 3.2 update also includes:

    • Enhanced displays on your goal progress after each completed workout
    • In-app live sharing to Facebook and Twitter, fitness insights, and badges for RunKeeper Elite users

    imageimageimage

Download the new version and give it a whirl!  (You can switch to a different language in the settings tab.) And if you have friends who speak one of these languages, make sure to let them know that RunKeeper now speaks their language as well :)

And finally, if you speak a language that isn’t on this list and want to see RunKeeper do the same, let us know in the comments below.  This is just the beginning!

  • Night mode, music, improved audio cues & more treats with Android 3.1!

Less than a month after we made you all our Valentines with our big 3.0 redesign, we’re still keeping the treats coming with this latest update for RunKeeper Android.

We’re continuing to make the most of Android standards with and music play access built right into the action bar that lets you fire up a playlist without leaving the app! Also included:

Capture more data about your activity
We want you to take your training to the next level, so we’ve added the ability to set a target pace workout.  We’ve also built out the audio cues to inform you of your current interval pace. And for those looking to stay on top of their heart rate stats, you can now manually enter that information in, too.

    More Flexible Sharing
Ever been so excited to end a workout that you forgot to hit share and brag about it to your friends and family? We sure have! Now with Android 3.1, you can easily get the word out after the fact with the native Android sharing features we’ve added.

    Night Mode
We’ve gotten great feedback from you all on the fun personality behind our 3.0 redesign, but we get that the light colors can be hard on the eyes in the darker hours. So we’ve added a night mode with darker colors for those later hours. Thanks to our brand new in-activity settings, you can even choose the color scheme and screen orientation of your liking even while a run is already underway.

Be sure to download the update and let us know what you think! And stay tuned for lots more rollouts this year.

  • We’re bringing a lot more flexibility your way with RunKeeper 3.1 for iPhone

We gave RunKeeper a fresh new makeover in time for the New Year, but we’re not stopping there! RunKeeper 3.1 for iPhone is now live, with more great updates to make getting and staying fit even easier.

    Weight Logging and Visualization
We know that weight management is a big part of your overall fitness, so we’re pleased to announce that we’ve made it easier to input and track your weight over time!  You can now enter your weight data manually, right from the phone, or do so in an automated way every time you step on the scale, by linking your RunKeeper account with one of the RunKeeper-compatible scales. You can also set reminders, so your RunKeeper app can remind you to weigh in at specified times, and tie those stats back to any weight loss goals you’ve set so you know when you’ve smashed it!

    In-Activity Settings
Ever been 10 minutes into a workout and realized you didn’t have audio cues or some other RunKeeper setting configured just how you like? We sure have! Now you can manage your visual preferences, audio cues, auto-pause, and more—all while you’re in the midst of tracking your workout.

    Night Mode
The response to our new look has been great (thank you!) with one exception—the bright white screen can be tough on the eyes, especially when you’re running at night. With 3.1, we’ve added an optional new “Night Mode” theme to the tracking experience that’s just right for low light situations (and for folks who love darker themes). You can toggle this in the in-activity settings mentioned above!

    imageimageimage

As you know, self-improvement is a continual process, but we hope this release gets us one step further down the path!  We’re excited to bring you more RunKeeper goodness as the year unfolds.

Download 3.1, and let us know what you think!

This Valentine’s season, we’re throwing a whole lotta love your way, Android users. We are pleased to announce the all-new RunKeeper 3.0 for Android!

It includes a brand new user interface, complete with a simpler, more inviting design, and lots of new features that you’ve long been asking for! This new version was built by some serious in-house Phandroids on the RunKeeper team (with Android’s design guidelines in mind), and will provide a solid foundation to build upon as we continue to add new features and improve what we’ve got.

    New in this release:
    Visual redesign
    - Complete visual redesign from the ground up with Android design guidelines and best practices in mind

  • RunKeeper releases 3.0 iPhone app—the all new RunKeeper is here!

Everyone looks at the New Year as a chance to become a better version of themselves, right? Well, we’re no exception, and are proud to announce a new version of the RunKeeper iPhone app with a whole new look and feel!

We’ve cleaned up our code and user interface, scrapping the bold colors and text for a cleaner design that’s easier to read and navigate, and that better showcases your personal fitness story. We hope you’ll find it more approachable and inviting, and a better motivator to keep you working towards (and achieving) your fitness goals!

Over the last year, we’ve worked hard to make RunKeeper a more intelligent and helpful personal trainer in your pocket, through new features like the ability to set a
goal and track your progress, train with the insights of running experts, and interact and compete with friends—right in the app. This new design better ties these powerful tools together into one intuitive, friendly, and fun experience. Check out the screens below to see for yourself!

     imageimageimage

With 3.0, we’ve also added exciting new functionality that should keep you better engaged and connected—right from your phone:

    • Enhanced in-app photo features make it easier for you to take pictures before, during, and after workouts and share those with friends on Facebook and Twitter, without having to leave the RunKeeper app.
    • You now can enable live activity tracking right from your phone, so friends and family can follow your progress and cheer you on! (must be RunKeeper Elite)

It doesn’t stop there though—we’ve got big plans to continue adding features that better empower people of all fitness levels to get and stay healthy, and have fun in the process. And our new design will make it easier to tie all of these planned improvements together in a great experience for all of you!  And don’t worry Android users, the Android counterpart will be coming soon :)

Happy New Year, RunKeepers, and here’s to an amazing 2013!

And be sure to take a look at the video below for a more behind-the-scenes look at the making of 3.0!
