We’re pumped to welcome new Product Manager, Jacob Sattelmair, to the RunKeeper team!

Jake Sattelmair RunKeeperIt’s hard to put in words just how thrilled I am to be joining team RunKeeper. On top of that, I get to say hello to the entire RunKeeper community. This is so awesome!

As a Product Manager, I’m obsessed with making sure that you’re 100% delighted with your RunKeeper experience, and I get to work with an amazing team of people who are equally obsessed with doing the same. I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about this opportunity, and it’s been a long time coming!

Might be hard to believe, but I’ve been a huge fan of physical activity since the age of ten; around that time, I began to realize that on days when I exercised, I felt better, got my homework done faster and was even a little nicer to my friends and family. I decided that exercise is the best thing ever, and determined I’d stay active for the rest of my life. I also decided that helping other folks benefit from physical activity, as I had, would be a pretty cool thing to do with my life.

Since then, I’ve tried to achieve this in a number of ways. First, I attained a Masters degree in Exercise Physiology and a Doctorate in Public Health. I published on the benefits of exercise to the brain, heart and aging, and also investigated the impact of physical activity on academic performance, and encouraged schools to get kids moving.

I also taught exercise and health to university students, and developed recommendations around exercise promotion in the workplace while interning at the World Health Organization. More recently, I helped develop a web solution that empowers individuals to make better health and healthcare decisions. So yes, I’m kind of obsessed…

How do I get my own exercise fix? After many years as a competitive rower, my exercise regimen now consists of active commuting, walking as much as I can, the occasional long bike ride, and every few days, sprinting as hard as I possibly can until my legs feel like jello.

I can’t wait to get some of the awesome new features we have cooking into your hot hands! I think you’re really going to love them. And I’d love to hear from you, so feel free to hit me up at RunKeeper, Twitter, or however else you’d like to say hello.

I need a nickname!
Here’s the deal–we’ve already got one ‘Jake‘ on the RunKeeper team, so adding another is sure to cause some confusion. I’m desperately in need of some help from the RunKeeper community to come up with a new nickname. Ideas? Hit me up in the comments section below.
