On June 21, eight teams of elite runners from around the world will be relaying around Mont Blanc, France for the ultimate trail running event: ASICS Beat the Sun. Their goal? To collectively finish the course before sundown.
Inspired to get out there and try trail running for yourself? Us too. Of course, you don’t have to relay around a mountain for 15 hours like the ASICS pros to get in on the action. But here are the benefits of incorporating new terrain into your workout routine!
1. It’s Scenic
Sunshine, trees, nature – what’s not to love? When it comes to cross training, trail running is a great workout to get in. Not to mention, the mental clarity that comes with the great outdoors.
2. It’s Easy on Joints
Pounding pavement can be brutal on the body, however, dirt trails absorb a lot of the damaging shock. Meaning, few injuries for you – woo!
3. It’s a Killer Workout
Uneven terrain demands more from your muscles. Balance and agility are all part of the trail running experience – trust us, you’ll feel it in the morning.
4. It’s Fun. Yes, Fun!
Did you love camping as a kid? Well, you’ll love the element of exploration that comes with working out in the woods. Plus, switching up the scenery will help keep you engaged.
Ready to train on new terrain? Go forth – and be sure to join the ASICS Beat the Sun Challenge and run with the best of them on June 21!
